Created in 2022 after his death, the Barry Bauman Art Institute honors the generosity of the Chicago-based art conservator, who donated over a million dollars in free restoration services to Hoyt Sherman Place over 10 years. His work includes The Repentant Magdalene and Apollo and Venus, two of the showpieces in the Hoyt Sherman Place Art Gallery. Implementing programming for students and adults to foster and grow their interests in the arts will ensure Bauman’s legacy continues.

Meditative artmaking is a practice that focuses on the process of creating art as a form of mindfulness, helping you center your thoughts and find calmness through artistic expression. Unlike traditional artmaking, the emphasis is less on the outcome and more on the experience of drawing itself. Join Madeline Maser for a short meditation and then without thinking, begin drawing with no plan which will then build and transform into an abstract piece of artwork.
