Volunteer Program

Hoyt Sherman Place is always looking for volunteers to serve in various roles. From ushers and ticket scanners at theater events to museum docents who love art and history, be part of the future of Hoyt Sherman Place.

THEATER VOLUNTEER

As a volunteer, you will take your place alongside the staff and many other dedicated individuals who enjoy meeting new people, supporting the arts within the greater Des Moines area, and celebrating the rich history of our one-of-a-kind facility.

I have enjoyed volunteering at Hoyt Sherman Place over many years. It has been a positive experience working with many fantastic people in the historic facility. The constant efforts to improve the experience for the patrons as well as the facilities, has been remarkable. I am happy to contribute in any way I can.

I wish I had a dollar for every time I have said “volunteering at Hoyt Sherman Place is the best decision I’ve made in my retirement”! I absolutely love and am proud to be a part of such an awesome community landmark. The flexibility in being able to choose the shows you can work, is wonderful. I can see shows/performances I love at no cost. The patrons at Hoyt are always friendly and I enjoy the interaction with the people. The staff at Hoyt are very professional and treat the volunteers with the utmost respect. I feel like I am appreciated every time I work a show. I hope to continue volunteering for Hoyt Sherman Place for as long as I am able.

Volunteering at Hoyt Sherman Place is important to me because I have been able to establish long-term relationships with the staff and other volunteers. There’s a history of quality managers on duty and it is a bonus that the programming has continued to improve in both caliber and frequency. I’m happy to play a small part in making my community better.
