Hoyt Sherman Place receives $25,000 Polk County Board of Supervisors’ Community Development Grant

The lawn enhancement project at the southern edge of Hoyt Sherman Place’s property is nearing completion and is now $25,000 closer to its funding goal, thanks to the Polk County Board of Supervisors. The outdoor plaza is finished with some additional landscaping, sod installation, benches and decorative railings remaining, which is scheduled to be completed later this summer and early fall.
The design features a circular stage area with a formal staircase that connects the plaza to the sidewalk with brick pillars, that match Hoyt Sherman Place’s exterior. The plaza is intended to host outdoor music, such as the annual Jazz in July series as well as other community and neighborhood events such as movie nights and Halloween on the Hill. Improvements to the already existing sidewalks also increase ADA-accessibility for those attending these types of events with wider walkways and a complete accessible route from the parking lot on the east side of the lawn to the west side.
