The historic Hoyt Sherman Place Theater is the perfect setting for your next event. Built in 1923 and restored in 2003, it is a classic Victorian theater with modern amenities. The seating capacity is 1,252, which is divided between a main floor, which seats 776, and a balcony, which seats 476. The Hoyt Sherman Place Theater has hosted a variety of events over the years, including concerts, comedians, lectures, dance recitals, corporate meetings, graduation ceremonies, and more.

Hoyt Sherman - Center For Artists and Education Rental

MEETINGS, CLASSES, LUNCHEONS, SPECIAL EVENTS

The Center for Artists and Education, completed in March 2020, comprises three levels, all available for rental. The first floor offers a covered loading dock, star dressing rooms, and rehearsal space, all included with theater rental.

The Fred & Emily Weitz Community Room, located on the second floor, is the perfect space for formal and informal events such as corporate meetings, luncheons, family gatherings, educational workshops, and seminars. This room can seat up to 100 guests, has standing room for 175, and boasts a kitchenette, restrooms and large, picturesque windows.

The third floor, home to the Krause Great Hall, can seat 50 and has standing room for 80 guests. Small, intimate receptions and parties work well in this space, which can also serve as a beautiful backdrop for a business meeting or private event. Large windows overlook downtown Des Moines, and the south wall displays the historic brick that was the original exterior of the building, giving a nod to Hoyt Sherman Place’s history while also bringing its functionality and relevance into the present and beyond.
