In September 2025, Hoyt Sherman Place Foundation, in partnership with the Des Moines Register, will launch a rebranded presentation of “Des Moines Storytellers Project” previously presented by the Des Moines Register. Tell It Like It Is: Iowa Storytellers Project will present five compelling stories directly from local Iowans on the historic Hoyt Sherman Place stage. Tell It Like It Is: Iowa Storytellers Project seeks to invite Iowans of all ages, backgrounds, and experiences to share an authentic experience of recognition, community, and empathy.
Do you have a story to tell? Serious, funny, uplifting, heartbreaking… Pitch us your story today! Each storyteller will work with a coach to workshop their story before they take the stage. Upcoming themes include “Back to School,” “Hearts on Fire,” “Search & Rescue,” and “Voyages.” Submissions for all themes are welcome now.
