5:30-6:15 PM: Seth Rezek Quartet outside on John & Penny Krantz Stage
6:30-8:15 PM: Shorter Stories: The Music of Wayne Shorter outside on EMC Plaza Stage

This free summer program wouldn’t be possible without the help of its premier sponsor, Principal Foundation, as well as expertise from our Jazz in July Arts Advisor John Krantz.

Attendees will be able to purchase food as well as beverages provided by the venue on site.

SHORTER STORIES celebrates the music of master composer and saxophonist Wayne Shorter through new arrangements featuring a seven-piece lineup primarily comprised of members of the University of Northern Iowa School of Music faculty. Christopher Merz (band leader, saxophone, principle arranger) originally conceived of the project after hosting composer/arranger John Beasley at UNI (Beasley has a similar project, the Monkestra, which tackles the music of Thelonious Monk). Other members include UNI professors Michael Conrad (piano, arranger), Anthony Williams (trombone), and Josh Hakanson (drums), along with guitarist Bob Dunn (UNI, retired), bassist David Altemeier (UNI alumnus) and trumpeter/arranger Jon Ailabouni (UW LaCrosse).
