Hoyt Sherman Place Foundation Receives

$10,000 from Principal Charity Classic’s Birdies for Charity Drive

Hoyt Sherman Place Foundation (HSPF) staff and board members, along with individual donors, designated $100,000 in contributions during the most recent Birdies for Charity Campaign. In doing so, they received the maximum allowable match of $10,000 from the organization.

Two thousand eighteen marks the sixth year HSPF has participated in Birdies for Charity which benefits the “FORE Our Kids” initiative to increase contributions to local arts, culture, health and human services organizations that support youngsters in the Des Moines area. As host to numerous annual local dance company recitals, Ballet Des Moines’ The Nutcracker performances and the Des Moines Public School graduation ceremonies, this campaign aligns directly with Hoyt Sherman Place’s mission to create outstanding experiences for the cultural, historic and educational benefit of Central Iowa and its residents and communities, especially its youth.

A portion of the “FORE Our Kids” funding will be dedicated to the continuation of Project S.T.A.G.E. events in spring 2019. HSPF provides much of the space needed for this two-day student arts festival where they partner with Kennedy Center’s Turnaround Arts Initiative and Des Moines Public Schools to invite six of the Title 1 schools in North Des Moines to participate in stage performances, teaching demonstrations, visual art displays and poetry vignettes.

Hoyt Sherman Place is the premier historic cultural center in Iowa and works to present outstanding performances, to celebrate Iowa’s history, and to grow arts and culture in the region. While its galleries and 1,252-seat theater have hosted some of the best singer-songwriters, recording artists, comedians, and entertainment personalities, the use of its space for local dance recitals, graduations, swearing-in ceremonies, and weddings are what have solidified Hoyt Sherman Place in the community’s heart.
